A similar kind of case has emerged in the capital of South Korea Seoul, where a person has been caught mining cryptocurrencies through illegal means.
The reports suggest that the particular person is an employee at the Seoul Arts Center. Seoul Arts Center is the most prestigious and popular opera house and an arts center. The authorities have confirmed that the particular employee was caught mining Ethereum (ETH) illegally.
The report from the authorities suggests that the employee was doing it secretly in the basement of the Seoul Arts Center. The report also confirms that the electricity that the employee was using to mine Ethereum (ETH) belonged to the Seoul Arts Center.
According to media sources, the name of the employee has not been made public. However, the media sources are speculating that the employee was a civil servant. The reports have confirmed that the employee has been suspended and sent home for two months.
The authorities confirmed that they were contacted by the management of the Seoul Arts Center when they discovered the ETH mining rigs in the basement. The report suggests that one of the employees was performing a routine check of the basement.
During the inspection of the basement, the employee noticed a small room that seemed unusual. Therefore, the employee went ahead and checked it out to find out that the room had a set up for Ethereum (ETH) mining.
The reports confirm that there were two mining rigs for Ethereum (ETH) that the employee had set up for mining Ethereum (ETH). The exact location of the ETH mining room was underneath the Calligraphic Art Museum of the Seoul Arts Center.
The rig had several high-end graphics cards installed that were considered the best for mining Ethereum (ETH) at a high rate. When the site was inspected by the authorities, they established that the rigs were connected to two power outlets at the center.
The authorities reveal that the employee is in his thirties and had been mining Ethereum since October 2020. He informed the authorities that initially, he had the rigs and the necessary hardware at his home. Then in October, he moved the rigs and all the hardware to the facility.
