A Redditor has recently communicated to all his fellow Redditors as well as the cryptocurrency users to be very vigilant with their crypto-passwords. He advised all the fellow crypto-users not to be over-confident and act vigilantly when dealing with their cryptocurrency credentials.
The user revealed to the entire cryptocurrency/Reddit community that his single mistake/negligence cost him a fortune. He informed that he ended up losing the password to the cryptocurrency wallet he had his Bitcoin (BTC) stored.
The Bitcoiner who ended up losing his password for the crypto-wallet goes by the username “Onnar” on Reddit. He confirmed to the entire crypto/Reddit community that he lost access to around 2.6 Bitcoin (BTC). At the time of publication, the 2.6 BTC translates to around $97,000. He confirmed that he realized this while he was making the transfer of his wallet from one computer to the newly bought computer.
Onnar stated that he carried out formatting the drive of his old computer without even doing a thorough check on it. He did not remember at that time that he had to check the password manager to see whether the password to the wallet was there or not.
After finishing up the transition, he proceeded onto opening his password manager to get the password to his Bitcoin (BTC) wallet. That is when he realized that he had not saved the password to his Bitcoin (BTC) wallet keys into the password manager. The user stated that he searched everywhere to see if he could find the password keys for the Bitcoin (BTC) but all in vain. He looked everywhere for almost an hour but none of the data he had contained the password.
The user Onnar took the entire blame onto himself stating that it is 100% his own fault for being too clumsy and hasty with things. Onnar stated that there is a possibility that his wallet password was copied into the password manager but it was not saved automatically.
Onnar stated that it has been more than one and a half weeks since he lost the password to his wallet. Since then, he has been searching constantly in all these remaining drives with hopes that he may be able to find the password. He informed that for now, he has not had any luck in finding the password to the wallet but is hopeful of finding it somehow.
However, the user received a lot of empathies from fellow Reddit users. There were many users who told Onnar about their own stories. They told him how they had accidentally lost their cryptocurrencies as well. One particular user “notmattdamon1” stated that he had faced something very similar to Onnar. However, the money he lost due to the mistake was way lower than what Onnar has lost.
